Testimony Poem; Victor

January 7, 1943
Almost midnight, sitting around the table with my parents
We all shuddered when we heard the door bell ring,
The moment had come, fear arose a couple of days ago
inhabitants of brussels were forbidden to go out after nine'o clock.
On December 31 three German soldiers were killed.
My mother had put her shoes to go to the door,
but my father said to wait they ringed once more.
The bell did not ring thank heaven it all passed quietly.
Only fear remained.
